Heelwork to Music in the UK

Meet the 2016 HTM & FS handlers
Susan Dooney & Murphy - HTM

Murphy is a 9 year old working sheepdog who was bred by myself following the untimely and early death of his Mum’s litter sister. He is a very loving, gentle and sensitive sole who is always there and demands nothing…………….My once in a life time dog.

Murphy is firstly and foremost a Flyball Dog who runs with our local team Blackpool Super Nova. Although he is beginning to slow now, in his prime he ran and maintained a very respectable time of 4.3 seconds. He currently holds his Platinum Award (25,000 points) and is just 1,500 points short of his Pearl Award.

I began training Heelwork to Music when he was 16 weeks old although it was never my intention to compete……..I just seem to have got sucked along somehow. This will be our 2 appearance on the ‘the green carpet’.

I can’t believe that that this time last year Murphy was recovering from surgery to remove a large benign tumour to his back and had to be withdrawn from the HTM SEMIS.

What a difference a year make

Good Luck to everyone competing. Have fun and show everyone there is no dog quite like yours.

Caroline Garrett - HTM

I am very excited to be returning to Crufts for the second time with Fawkes- he is such a super dog! After Crufts 2015 we immediately switched disciplines to work our first full summer season of obedience. After a rocky start, with problems in almost every exercise we managed to turn things around through focus, determination and hard work. Everything came together for us to win through classes B and C in 7 weeks with Fawkes actually winning his third B and qualifying for ticket (Championship class) on the same day-that was a fabulous feeling and one of the highlights of our year. When Autumn arrived we put our dancing shoes back on and focused on getting ready for the semi's. I was so looking forward to working on the routine I had been planning throughout the year! At the semi's our hard work paid off when we won the class and I am now very excited to be performing our most challenging but favourite routine to date at Crufts.

Lesley Neville and Dewy (Brambledale Blue Dewy)

Lesley and Dewy competed at Crufts last year in the HTM competition for the

first time and Lesley is thrilled to have qualified Dewy to do the same

again this year. Not only that but Dewy has also qualified for the

Freestyle competition too!

So it will be a very busy Crufts for them both this year. Lesley is very

proud of her Beardie Boy who was just 4 years old this February, and hopes

that the boom cameras at Crufts are not as scary to him this year as they

were last year!

Lesley and Dewy would like to wish their fellow competitors all the very

best GOOD LUCK and hope that everyone enjoys their time on the green

carpet

Nicci Hindson - freestyle

I'm Nicci and my dance partner is Nala, a 4 year old red tri WSD. I have been competing in HTM for 10 years (eeeek where did that time go?) and Nala began her dancing career in 2012. This will be our second time at crufts together, and in 2014, we were also lucky enough to be selected for ?HTM TeamGB, and we traveled to Germany to compete in the Open European Championship. Nala is a total princess!! She loves performing to an audience and will repeat any move which makes the crowd say 'ahhh.' I love my crazy little diva diva dog to pieces and cannot wait to dance with her on the green carpet again. I'd like to thank all of my friends who have supported and believed in us, and helped us achieve our dreams. Best of luck to all other competitors.

Lucy Creek - HTM & freestyle

Lucy has qualified two dogs in the freestyle competition

Skiffle (Harriot Skiffle King)

Skiffle will be competing in both Heelwork to Music and Freestyle. It will be his fourth year competing in HTM and his second in Freestyle. Last year we were lucky enough to win both the HTM and the freestyle but a couple of months later Skiff injured first his leg and then as he was recovering (healed but still weak on one side) a moment of madness meant he injured his pelvis. Luckily he had qualified for the semi finals early in the year but, despite massive improvement in his muscle tone and positive noises from the physio meaning we could begin very gentle training in november (Skiff was ecstatic), as december 2015 began I still wasn't sure we were going to be able to compete this year. With an amazing physio and some determination he was declared fit to compete in the first week of January. I was just so pleased that we were going to be able to perform at the semi-finals but with so little time to get ourselves sorted, I really wasn't sure we would be ready enough to qualify. I was therefore overjoyed when Skiff qualified in both heelwork and freestyle divisions! Such an amazing dog. I love him so much.

Teasel (Dialynne Making Waves)

I am so happy that my beagle has qualified for Crufts for a 5 year! It gives me so much joy to work this little dog. Training and competing with her is always such a challenge that when it all goes well it makes it even more special. This is a dog that knows her own mind so if she doesn't feel like dancing, she won't! Being a beagle it's sometimes tricky to switch her nose off, despite all the distraction training we do with her. Teaching her new tricks takes much longer than any of my other dogs but she really enjoys that learning process so it makes it all worth while. She can sometimes be a little madam who likes to get her fair share of attention so she was not pleased when a new puppy arrived on the scene this summer, stealing her training time! Gradually she has accepted the pup and now they are becoming firm friends. She may be bouncy during the day and loves an outing whether it be in town or countryside, but on an evening there is nothing she likes better than curling up on a nice warm lap. She really is a very loving cuddly dog who is a joy to have as a pet.

Naomi Baggaley - HTM

Kara was privately rehomed to me (through her breeder) when she was 2 years old as her previous owner felt she could not give her the life she deserved due to her own ill health. I already have a Jacobrad GSD (Luka) and jumped at the chance to bring another one home.

Kara started HTM in Starters at Findon show in 2013 and we won into advanced in April 2015 - our first attempt at an Advanced routine was in Andover in November of that year and that is when we got our qualifier so I am very proud of Kara.

I am so lucky to have been given Kara - she is great fun to work with but more importantly a joy to live with - the happiest soul in the world who never fails to make me smile, I just love her to bits. ??
